Adventure Activities and Tour Operators
The recreation and adventure possibilities on and around Quadra Island are virtually limitless. Quadra Island is an evergreen island of maturing second-growth forest dotted with some huge veteran old-growth trees. Quadra is surrounded by the snowcapped peaks of the neighbouring Coast Range to the east and the Strathcona Park mountains on adjacent Vancouver Island to the west. There are surging tidal rapids, large open bodies of water, numerous islets dotting the intricate shoreline, HMCS Columbia artificial reef, pebble beaches, protected bays, channels and deep fjords. For the sailor, kayaker, hiker, mountain biker, mountaineer, canoeist, diver, kite-surfer and boater a world of discovery awaits.
A diverse array of wildlife make their homes among this striking landscape including: seals, sea lions, porpoise, salmon, bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, black-tailed deer, wolf and black bears. Further off the Island in the deep wilderness of the Coast Range mountains opportunities exist to view grizzly bears (there are no grizzlies on Quadra Island!), passing orcas, dolphins, grey and humpback whales. Local tour operators offer guided trips and equipment rentals to help you make the most of your Quadra Island adventure.
The Quadra Island Community Centre is the local hub for recreation, education and culture. The Community Centre facilities include: tennis courts, skateboard park, baseball park, boat ramps, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, places to run, camp sites, great bike touring, a freshwater lake chain for canoe tripping and much, much more.
