Quadra Island is surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery; snowcapped mountains rise from the emerald fjordal waters of the mainland inlets to the east and to the west the skyline of the Vancouver Island mountains completes the frame, around the island are rushing tidal rapids, calm channels numerous islets and beaches waiting to be discovered.
A diverse array of wildlife make their homes among this striking landscape including: seals, sea lions, porpoise, salmon, bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, black-tailed deer, wolf and black bears. Further off the Island in the deep wilderness of the Coast Range mountains opportunities exist to view grizzly bears (there are no grizzlies on Quadra Island!), passing orcas, dolphins, grey and humpback whales. The best whale watching in our area is in the Johnstone Strait. Some Quadra Island based sea kayak operators offer tours in this area.
Wildlife is best seen from the water by kayak or powercraft and numerous tour operators offer regular trips in the Quadra Island region to view wildlife.
