How big is Quadra?
As the crow flies Quadra Island is about 35 km (22 mi) from north to south. At its narrowest point on the southern peninsula it is less than 2 km (1.25 mi) wide and at its widest point, west to east, about 15 km (9 mi) wide. In area Quadra is about 310 square kilometres (120 sq. miles)
How long does it take to get from one end of the island to the other?
To drive from the Cape Mudge lighthouse at the south end to Surge Narrows on the north east end, allow an hour. To Granite Bay in the north west of the island is also about an hour. While most roads are paved, some of them are narrow, winding, and in plases hilly. Exercise caution and stay on your side of the road. Please watch for cyclists and pedestrians at all times.
Can I buy groceries on Quadra?
Absolutely, there are two fully stocked gocery stores on Quadra one in Quathiaski Cove and the other in Heriot Bay. Both sell liquor and have ATMs. The island is served by a gas station, pharmacy, two post offices and credit union for banking needs. Can I get cash from an ATM?
There are three ATMs on Quadra accepting a variety of debit card networks. There is a branch of Coastal Community Credit Union which offers most typical banking and financial services and in nearby Campbell River there are branches of all the larger Canadian charter banks.
Are there any hiking trails on Quadra?
Yes there is an amazing network of trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking in all corners of the island. A dedicated group of volunteers have built and maintain trails to hilltop views, shoreline beaches and towering forests. For more information on Quadra's trails click here.
