Lake Haven Art Retreat

Perrin Sparks hosts artists wishing to improve or explore their painting or printmaking creative passions.  From formal workshop formats to just sharing time in the studio, visitors can create their own unique experience.  Guest may stay in the guest rooms at Lake Haven, or simply schedule a few hours of instruction.  Located in a more remote section of Quadra, on Village Bay Lake, opportunities to kayak, canoe, swim,  hike, or to simply relax on the deck are plentiful for visitors and their traveling companions.

Group Size: The studio space is limited to a maximum of 4 students.  There are two guest rooms at Lake Haven, one with a king-size waterbed, the other with two extra-long twins with a bathroom shared by the two rooms.

Dream Catcher

Relax in an invigorating setting and learn the art of making a dream catcher that you’ll be proud of and pass along the skill to your kids and grandkids.  This workshop is perfect for groups and is hosted by Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge utilizing the talent of a local resident from Cape Mudge Village. Depending on the size of the group participants should allow 1.5 hours for this workshop. Available Mid-April to Mid-October.

Drum Making

Relax in an invigorating setting and learn the art of traditional drum making. Learn a traditional First Nation art form and leave with a 10” drum that will last you a lifetime. This workshop is perfect for groups and is hosted by Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge (May-Sep) and by Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre (Oct-Apr) utilizing the talent of a local artist from Cape Mudge Village. Depending on the size of the group participants should allow at least 2.0 hours for this workshop. Available Year Round. Minimum 10

This workshop explores many concepts of garden design and is presented From both a horticultural and an architectural perspective. Intended for The home garden designer, the presentation is divided into two areas:

1. Design - where we discuss the principles of design in hard and soft Landscaping, elements of a garden, contemporary gardens and how they are Changing.

2. The application of the design ideas - where we discuss site conditions, Choosing plants and materials, working with problem areas in the garden and sustainability.

Time will be available to work with participants on their individual
Garden designs.

James Pottery workshops

Workshops may discuss and demonstrate an assortment of pottery techniques including: Ceramic processes and materials. Handbuilding with Porcelain-form and surface. Throwing on the potter's wheel. Artistry and skills, Designing Dinnerware, Handbuilding Stoneware Sculpture-wheel and/slab construction, the Figure with Humour. Functional Pottery Demonstrations: throwing, altering, trimming, decoration and glazing. Maiolica techniques. Porcelain techniques.
Conversation, question and answer, demonstration, show and tell. Thirty-five years of experience as professional potters.
